Scott, what we do know is that history repeats itself. Many people don’t read, study or understand history. Additionally, people reading history may now rewrite it for themselves and their own nefarious purposes. The stories we were told in primary and intermediary schools were partial truths. This is important because, we are at a moment in our lifetime where we can see the difference between subjective truth and objective truth. The person you may be referring to is not one person, they are a culmination of a group of people enabling this situation. Recently, we saw politicians telling military members to disregard unlawful orders. Remember in "A few good men” code red? The system is designed for this, and the system will support it as long as two conditions apply. The first is the people representing us that have common sense, actually do their jobs. I think this is unlikely but this is why they represent us. Meaning the situation will continue because the leadership is failing across the board. The second is pressure from the people. The people will not create pressure unless there is enough economic failure that disrupts the daily lives of the working and middle class. The middle lower and lower class don’t have enough skin in the game and they aren’t in a position to take up any meaningful action. What does this mean? History tells us that we will have a socioeconomic or social collapse which will reshape the nation and possibly the world. The US, China and Russia will cause great disruption and hopefully it won’t go the exact way of history. If it does… we won’t need to worry about the cares of the common person because there will be a new world which may not include us… Stupid? Yeah.. and .. where is the Lorax?

Ah yes, the Lorax has gone quiet. Maybe he got tired of shouting over hedge fund managers trimming the Truffula trees. Or maybe he moved to another dimension where people still read their history books instead of editing them for clicks. You’re right though, this mess isn’t one person’s doing… It is a whole ecosystem gone rogue, powered by lies and half truths carefully designed to stir rage, shut down reflection and keep people feeling instead of thinking. Still, I like to think the Lorax isn’t gone. He’s just waiting for enough of us to stop pretending the smog is sunshine and remember who planted the trees in the first place.

What makes all of this even stranger is that I had literally just finished watching One Battle After Another before reading your comment. It felt like the universe queued it up as the director’s cut to this conversation. The movie shows one broken man rattling around inside a broken system and then your note arrives to remind me that the real plot twist is that we keep buying tickets to the same story.
